Last march I was joined by HEK, an Icelandic Singer/Songwriter and poet whom I had met in the previous year. He wrote the poem “Nowhere” right before he came to the US, and in Brooklyn taverns and late night jam sessions would recite it to whatevcer haphazard groups we’d managed to assemble. It has a simple imagery, and powerful message, and when I read it, it puts me in a mental space where I feel like I am contemplating our world from the outside. With his permission, here is HEK’s “Nowhere”

Nowhere

In the end there were no words

The Blue planet turned in to a drop

And the drop hit the sun
And there was no light

Man survived

And turned on the moon

Made a new home

Loved his neighbor and respected his wife

They were technically alive

Driven by electric light

Pail with big eyes

Dreaming about old times

Caveman on the moon

Discovered fire

Cloned earth from dirt

And introduced himself to Adam and Eve

Well Eve got scared

And Adam took a bite

Again started the eternal fight

Where Creation looses every time

Once up on a time there was light

But light was lonely and wanted to understand

So light made shadow

For shadow to understand it´s light
